Cake, for me, has far more significance than just something to eat, it’s the invitation to sit with friends or family and chat, and an opportunity to pause. I use multiple processes, exploring the wide-ranging properties of glass. Creating my own color blends, my work combines casting, fusing, and pâte de verre. I take advantage of the wide range of outcomes achieved with precise and meticulously tested firing schedules.
With a degree in Applied Arts, specializing in glass, Sarah Brown is interested in exploring how different techniques and minute temperature changes can alter glass. She uses a wide range of techniques and processes within her pieces and finds ways to replicate surfaces and textures as closely as possible with such an unlikely material. Her work has been exhibited extensively throughout the UK and featured in publications including The Telegraph Magazine, Elle Decoration, and craft & design.
