Myth and Mire is influenced by the rich archaeology of Caithness, Scotland. An exploration of my connection to the land and the people that once occupied it, the piece is not intended to be historically accurate. Instead I work instinctively, using my own visual language and symbolism, creating a sense of Otherness and traces of a narrative.

Shelagh Swanson graduated from Gray's School of Art, Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, in 2004. She discovered a love for the medium of glass during a residency at North Lands Creative in 2006. She now creates work by commission and for exhibition from her studio in rural Caithness. Having grown up on a farm nearby, Swanson feels a deep connection to the land. Her work explores this relationship, and acts as a vehicle with which to express emotion.
