Bullseye Gallery at the Glass Art Society's June 2008 Conference

Portland, OR - Portland, home to glass manufacturer Bullseye Glass Company and Bullseye Gallery, will host the international Glass Art Society’s 38th Annual Conference in June 2008. The non-profit organization will bring over 2,000 artists, students, educators, collectors, and gallery/museum personnel, as well as writers and critics to downtown Portland. The conference will be held June 19 – 21, but many activities are planned for the entire month of June.

The Glass Art Society (GAS) conference offers Portland an opportunity to witness the best of the local glass-art community alongside master artists from around the globe. Bullseye Gallery and the Feldman Gallery at the Pacific Northwest College of Art will bring together faculty printmakers and painters with artists from Mexico, Australia and the U.K. to display their explorations in glass. Within the Portland Japanese Gardens, monumental glass sculptures by Jun Kaneko from the Bullseye collection will begin a dialogue with the landscape around them, while a group show of Japanese glass artists will fill the pavilion gallery. Bullseye Gallery will also host a special group show of glass artists influenced by the legacy of Klaus Moje, the founder of The Glass Workshop at the School of Art, Australia National University in Canberra, Australia. Concurrently, a survey of Klaus Moje’s kilnformed glass will be on view at the Portland Art Museum in the museum’s second all-glass show since Dale Chihuly’s record-breaking exhibit in 1997.

Portland’s Pearl District will be the center of this year’s GAS Gallery Hop scheduled for the evening of Friday, June 20, and comprising over 16 galleries. Aside from special glass exhibits on display in Pearl District galleries, the artists of Bullseye Gallery will be taking over neighborhood storefronts and businesses, filling Portland with artwork. During the conference, Bullseye Gallery will present a diverse line-up of shows, including a retrospective of work by sculptor Clifford Rainey and an exhibit of recent Bullseye architectural glass projects from around the world. During June, Bullseye will join the Glass Art Society in exhibiting an exceptional array of internationally recognized glass artists, spotlighting creative energy from around the world and at the heart of our city.
