Jessica Loughlin Wins Australian Glass Award

Adelaide, Australia-based Bullseye Connection artist Jessica Loughlin has been awarded the $10,000 Tom Malone acquisition prize sponsored by the Art Gallery of Western Australia for her kilnformed diptych “Vertical Lines 7”.

Awarded annually, the prize was initiated by museum benefactor, Elizabeth Malone, in tribute to her late husband, glass enthusiast Tom Malone and is intended to enhance the museum’s collection of contemporary Australia studio glass with acquisitions of major works by Australia’s best artists in the field.

The award marks Loughlin’s continued upward trajectory in a young but impressive career that includes the 2002 acquisition by the Corning Museum of the central work from her Portland, Oregon exhibition Landscape: Mindspace: her prior recognition by UrbanGlass as Outstanding New Talent (2001): and her winning of the RFC Glass Prize (1997), to name but a few.

A catalog of the shortlisted works and judges commentary on the Tom Malone is available from the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
