New directions for the glass medium, new artists and established masters are brought together by Bullseye at the Eleventh Annual International Exposition of Sculpture Objects & Functional Art: SOFA Chicago. November 5 - 7, 2004.
Chicago, IL – The Bullseye Connection Gallery is pleased to exhibit at SOFA, the International Exposition of Sculpture Objects and Functional Art at Chicago’s Navy Pier, November 5 - 7, 2004.
Located on the center aisle at No. 908, the gallery’s booth will feature contemporary works in international studio glass by the following artists:
Catherine Aldrete-Morris (Australia)
Galia Amsel (UK)
Bennett Battaile (USA)
Giles Bettison (Australia)
Nicole Chesney (USA)
Matthew Curtis (Australia)
Jun Kaneko (USA)
Steve Klein (USA)
Alicia Lomné (USA)
Jessica Loughlin (Australia)
Catharine Newell (USA)
Bullseye welcomes SOFA newcomers Catherine Aldrete-Morris and Catharine Newell. “My work is all about ‘containment’ in some form or other, containment of line, depth and temperament,” says Aldrete-Morris. “Minimalism of form and design coupled with abstraction allows me to produce sculptural work, which echoes my interests in such art movements.” Aldrete-Morris is an internationally-recognized Australian artist who has exhibited in Australia, Italy, and the UK.
“I work to celebrate the individual,” says Catharine Newell, recipient of the Craft Houston 2003 Award of Merit. Catharine’s portraits are a collection of insights into unique personalities glimpsed momentarily amidst their everyday activities. Newell will be in attendance at SOFA to discuss her work.
Newell’s kilnformed glass panels are an example of the wide range of new two-dimensional works Bullseye will feature this year, an interesting development for a medium frequently associated with sculptural work. Nicole Chesney, Jun Kaneko, Steve Klein, Jessica Loughlin and Catharine Newell translate the conceptual and aesthetic issues of painters and traditional media into glass.
Bullseye is delighted to have six of its twelve international artists in attendance at this year’s SOFA exposition. In addition to Catharine Newell, Bennett Battaile, Nicole Chesney, Matthew Curtis, Steve Klein and Jessica Loughlin will join the Bullseye team at the exposition and will be available for questions and discussion.
