Put simply, Karlyn Sutherland appears not to look to mathematical or formulaic points of departure, but more to a desire to represent the thing-ness of certain kinds of space, experience and/or spatial awareness. Removed as her works are from the specificity of 'place,' she nonetheless deploys the mathematical rules of perspective - at a base level at least , the work is representational in this regard, albeit 'detatched' at one and the same time.
