John Drury reviews Dorie Guthrie's solo exhibition "Nocturnal Veils" at Bullseye Glass Resource Center New York in Glass Quarterly Winter Issue No. 157.
Guthrie's scale and the oval shapes of her compositions echo early miniature photographic portraits, but there is also a quality of hand-colored etchings, her masterful handling of glass powders and frit to achieve the strong outlines defining faces that are then vividly tinted in mealy surfaces recalling the stage actor's pancake makeup.
