Sponsored by the Bullseye Glass Co. of Portland, Oregon, “Contemporary Kiln-Glass," an exhibition of over 70 works by over 40 international artists, will be on view at the Merwin Gallery of Illinois Wesleyan University from January 13 to February 10, 2005.
Works in the exhibition, which are on loan from the glass manufacturer’s private collection and from the inventory of the company gallery, briefly survey the recent history of the method with special emphasis on international master Klaus Moje and the twin developmental currents of US West Coast and Australia’s Canberra School of Art, then are displayed according to method, and finally re-explored from a thematic perspective.
On Tuesday, February 8, Ted Sawyer, Bullseye’s director of research and education, will give a lecture entitled The Bullseye Glass Factory-Artist Exchange Program. He will present an overview of how the relationship between artist and manufacturer benefits both parties as well as the entire glass movement. See the work of emerging and master-level artists and find out how their projects at Bullseye have affected the direction of both artist and manufacturer. The lecture is free and open to the public.
