Bullseye showcases figurative and sculptural work by international artists at the Twelfth Annual International Exposition of Sculpture Objects & Functional Art: SOFA Chicago, October 28-30, 2005.
Chicago, IL – The Bullseye Connection Gallery is pleased to exhibit at SOFA, the International Exposition of Sculpture Objects and Functional Art at Chicago’s Navy Pier, October 28-30, 2005.
Located on the center aisle at No. 908, the gallery’s booth will feature contemporary works in international studio glass by the following artists:
Giles Bettison (Australia)
Steve Klein (USA)
Alicia Lomné (USA)
Jessica Loughlin (Australia)
Catharine Newell (USA)
Kirstie Rea (Australia)
April Surgent (USA)
Bullseye is excited to introduce April Surgent at her SOFA debut. Surgent is a recent graduate of the Australian National University in Canberra at the prestigious glass program founded by glass visionary Klaus Moje. Surgent’s cameo-engraved glass panels depict both urban and rural landscapes. “My work investigates the importance of the inherent link between person and place,” says Surgent. “By closely observing and recording my interactions and perceptions of and with different places, I start to become aware of the "being" of places as I have experienced them. This awareness of place gives me an understanding of the significance that different places hold on societies and my own identity.”
Catharine Newell’s figurative panels explore the personal from a different perspective. She uses frit powder to “paint” momentary portraits with glass. “I work to celebrate the individual,” says Catharine Newell, recipient of the Craft Houston 2003 Award of Merit. Bullseye introduced Newell’s work at SOFA Chicago 2004.
Bullseye will also showcase abstract sculptural works from American and Australian artists: Steve Klein and Alicia Lomné’s colorful, graphic work; Kirstie Rea’s and Jessica Loughlin’s quiet, reflective sculptures; and Giles Bettison’s patterned sculptures and vessels.
Bettison, Klein, Loughlin, Newell and Rea will join the Bullseye team at the exposition and will be available for questions and discussion.
